A property-tax overhaul

What It Does

Increases the non-school homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, then indexes it to inflation. Lowers annual assessment-growth limits for non-homestead property from 10% to 5%.

School taxes are excluded from the increased exemption. People who are not Florida residents on December 31, 2026, receive the increased exemption beginning with their fifth year of exemption, to the extent constitutional. Counties and cities must receive a procedure for further exemptions, up to full assessed value. Special districts require a referendum. The amendment adds local spending categories and procedures for exceptions; it does not eliminate all property taxes.

Lower local revenue may mean service cuts, fees or higher rates elsewhere. Benefits differ by property and residency.

A Yes Vote

Approve larger non-school exemptions, a lower non-homestead cap and new local tax-use rules.

A No Vote
